ソウル歌手のデラ・リースとエリントン・バンドが出演した米国州兵 (National Guard) のリクルート・ラジオ番組「Live Guard Session」の16曲と、1964年の Basin St.East でのライブの３曲を収録したアルバム。
Live Guard Session(1-17)では、放送毎にお決まりの番組テーマ・ソングを披露する Intriduction は冒頭だけの収録ですが、放送は毎回 Intriduction+4曲の15分程度の番組だったようで、4回分の収録と言う事になります。
曲間にMCのマーティン・ブロックと出演者のやり取りが入るのはこの番組のスタイルですね。
Sophisticated Lady は、サックスのアンサンブルで始まるハーリイ・カーネイをフューチャーするバージョン。
ライブではないので、Jam With Sam でのソリストの紹介はありません。
尚、(5,9,13,17)は、放送毎のクローザーのためかフェードアウトとなります。
Basin St.East でのライブ(18-21)も、曲間にMCとエリントンのやり取りがありますのでラジオ放送音源と思われます。
